SPR Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychophysiology Selection Criteria and Procedure & Application
The Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychophysiology is the highest honor given by the Society for Psychophysiological Research. It is given to an individual to recognize a sustained and distinguished contribution to Psychophysiology. It is awarded by the Senior Award Committee which consists of the Past President, the President and the President-Elect. Nominations for the award can be made by members of the Society. This committee determines each year whether and to whom any such awards shall be made.
Selection Criteria
- Senior member of SPR (typically multiple decades of sustained contributions after the terminal degree)
- Sustained and distinguished contribution to psychophysiology, as evidenced by some combination of:
- research impact, including publication record using psychophysiological methods
- significant contribution in developing and/or advancing psychophysiology methods
- service to SPR through committees and/or other elected or appointed roles
- excellence in mentorship in psychophysiology research
- activities promoting the enhancement of representation of scientists from historically excluded groups
- advancing psychophysiological research (application, method development) among historically excluded groups
Selection Process
Nominations will be solicited beginning at the fall annual meeting, with a deadline of February 1. SPR encourages self-nominations and nominations of individuals from historically underrepresented groups in psychophysiology.
Nominations should include a CV and a brief statement (less than 1 page) indicating how the candidate has made sustained contributions to psychophysiology, according to the selection criteria above.
The Senior Award Committee will meet in February or March to select the awardee. The current SPR President will notify the award winner. The award winner will be presented the award at the annual meeting in fall. The awardee will select someone to present the award to them. The award may be presented during the business luncheon or a separate session. Communication about this will be handled with the Program Chair and President.
